Why are these non-fiction books hot?

Every hour, Amazon updates lists of hot new releases and you can find them by categories.  Naturally, because I have written and continue to write non-fiction I am perpetually curious and studying what makes these non-fiction books successful.

I randomly took four to look at them in an almost surface way. Just looking at what you see listed here. AuthorsTitles, Price, How Many Reviews, and Average Review Rating.
Only one of the authors on this list I read and follow (James Altucher). You can ask yourself if you recognize the names of Joceyln K. Glei, Phil Jackson, Daniel Bergner. Some of you will recognize one or two. Frequently you won’t.

I can tell you right now that the titles and subtitles were carefully crafted
to appeal to their target markets. From Jackson’s Eleven Rings: The Soul of Success, to What do Women Want?: Adventures in the Science of Female Desire. The Authors and publishers agonized and tested these titles, using accessible to anyone online resources.
The price was also agonized over, as you can see they range from $3.99 to $12.99. Cheaper is not always more attractive and you have to know again your target market, your competition, and other ins and outs of pricing but more importantly, you need to know how to do promotions on the regular price.

In the reviews, you can see that the number of reviews range from 5 to 66 but three out of our four have over 50 reviews. This is critical as we are still a join-the-party-if-I-know-a-bunch-of-others-are-already-there, type of creature. And particularly if they are giving it a 4 and a half star thumbs up.  Only one of our books has a 4 rather than a 4.5 average rating, it also has the least reviews BUT What Do Women Want? is also the book with the clearest target market and best title.
Then there is the other factor, if 50+ people are giving a book 4 or higher rating, generally speaking it means the book is well-written and has good, valid and unique content. We are never going to get around the fact that we are looking for quality, and, as I have demonstrated at many of my seminars we look for quality over quantity. Every time. More than ever these days word-counts don’t count.
All of these qualities and many more details make the difference between a bestseller non-fiction (and continuing bestseller), and one that goes nowhere. If you are crafting a book, don’t let it go nowhere, learn as much as you can. We will always give you the most updated information we have, whether it is at the Bestsellers List Secrets Weekend in September 2013, or one-on-one coaching.
